Love story
After a year of friendship and flirting, on Saturday March 12th 2005, our best friend Katie wanted to pick me up early for our pub shift at The Farmhouse Inn. When I questioned why are we at work so early she asked me ‘what do you think of being Harry’s girlfriend?’ I felt initial anticipation and butterflies and agreed if he liked me I would - I didn’t even know he liked me but he always told me it was love at first sight for him. I called his landline phone from the pub and gave him my answer - yes I’ll be your girlfriend. The rest of years 10 and 11 at HRS I doodled every week in my planner “I am the future Mrs Denham” in all different colours and styles.
After years of hand holding, loving looks and lots of snogging on April 8th 2011, Harry planned a trip to London for my 21st birthday present, part of this was a cruise down the river Thames on The Bateaux London. Recreating the famous titanic scene I stood at the back of the boat and put my arms out to be held by his and whispered “Jack, I’m flying” we both laughed and I turned around to see him knelt on one knee with a beautiful ring he’d chosen all by himself asking me to be his wife. We danced the night away with champagne, live music and a beautiful dinner.
Our wedding was stunning, with so much help from my parents, his parents and my auntie and uncle, we had the dream we’d always wanted. In our most beautiful church in Thaxted and in a private garden with a view of the Windmill that no other wedding ever had before, surrounded by the people we loved most.
Settling down as man and wife in our first little home was more than I ever dreamed of, the most perfect, patient and loving husband anyone could ask for. I knew that I’d made the right choice in Harry because every single thing he did was to make me happy, smile and laugh everyday. Always my support and cheerleader when I needed it most.
Our gorgeous George came along in 2015 and I couldn’t believe how Harry took to fatherhood, he was the most amazing daddy from day one, never letting anything fluster him and always calming me down when I was worrying about the stresses a first time mum faces. Then our beautiful Jack Harrison a couple of years later, again he took it all in his stride coping with a newborn, a wild toddler and a stressed mummy. His boys were his world - always present and listening to them, geeking out with George about his interests and making them his own. They both loved their dad’s music taste and would play it far too loud on every car journey. Such a present dad taking them on walks and trips, they knew how lucky they were.
In 2019, we finally made it back to our beloved Thaxted. A renovation project a few doors down from Harry’s childhood home and the house his parents still live in. I remember when we had picked up the keys and walked up to get George from playschool, he pulled me back into his arms and whispered ‘we made it! We’re back in Thaxted!’ And I burst into tears. We both worked tirelessly to make it our forever home with our boys, with the help of our incredible families and we were so proud of what we’d achieved.
In 2022 we completed our family with our beautiful cocker spaniel Tallulah, she was definitely a daddy’s girl and their little fussing routines were so joyful to watch even if it meant I had to wait 10 minutes until he’d finished greeting her before I got my kiss hello when he came in the door in the evening.
Our whole relationship has been based on intense love, private jokes and sayings and his utter obsession with me - leaving me love notes, rubbing my feet, running me baths and always building me up to understand that I was his queen, an excellent mother and the best wife any man could ever ask for.
I will love him and miss him for the rest of my days, wondering how we’d be in the next chapter of our lives, thinking how we’d tackle a situation because we always did it all together - as a team.
I promise him I will do the best I possibly can to raise our beautiful boys and always talk about him and the incredible memories we all share together.
Your wifey, Your Red x
